According to the governments fire statistics, overheated light fittings and electrical faults are one of the leading causes of fire destruction to buildings and homes. The envirograf acoustic downlight fire covers also known as the downlight fire hoods can provide the perfect solution for this, as when exposed to heat the intumescent material expands to create a fire barrier and form a seal maintaining the integrity as well as the fire rating of the ceiling. With the increased use of downlighters, the integrity of the plasterboard and suspended ceilings can be reduced to approximately 4 minutes protection.
They are easily installed in about five minutes from below or above the ceiling, with cable entries on top of the intumescent covers ventilated to avoid light fittings overheating. Cables can also be passed under the rim of the cover for connections to transformers. Only the light fitting penetration is required to be protected, not the transformer. For installation, use the two supplied pins and fasten the opposite inner flanges of the cover to the plasterboard. Insert the light fitting and fasten the closing mechanism over the inner flaps of the downlighter cover to seal the opening. Downlighter hoods require a minimum of 40mm horizontal clearance and 15mm vertical clearance.
The downlight fire hoods can provide up to 4 hours of fire resistance and has been tested, employing the general procedures of BS 476 Part 22, 23 & 23 Clause 5 (1987) in various ceiling and floor constructions, as well as being tested to NEN 6069 (1997).
DSLV covers can be made to measure for use where transofmrers or chokes are connected to the light fitting. Tested to BS 476 Parts 22, 23 and 23 Clause 5 (1987) for 88 minutes of fire integrity
The downlight fire covers are used to restore the integrity required by British Standards and offer great solution to electrical fire protection. The covers are available in many standard sizes, and other sizes can be made to order. There is also a new type of acoustic downlight cover available on request.
